Find the NMLS State Prelicensure Education (PE) and Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System Continuing Education (CE) requirements for each mortgage licensing agency. You can also find an agency’s PE expiration status – if listed as “enacted” then that agency expires PE – and details on CE requirements.  

Uniform CE Policy: As a condition for license renewal, an MLO is required to complete at least eight (8) hours of CE in the same year in which he/she is placed in an approved license status by a state agency, with the following exception: An MLO who has completed his/her pre-licensure education (PE) course requirements in the same year in which the license was approved, is not required to complete CE.

SMART CE 2025 Deadlines: CE has to be completed before the renewal application can be submitted. Complete CE early so you can submit your license renewal application on time. Follow these dates to ensure you can submit for renew on time:

SMART CE DEADLINE:  CE course(s) reported to NMLS by Friday, December 5 
At RISK TO MISS RENEWAL:  CE course(s) reported to NMLS by Friday, December 12 
GUARANTEED TO MISS RENEWAL:  CE course(s) reported to NMLS on Friday, December 26

Note: An agency could have a CE deadline sooner than those listed above. Deadlines are listed in each agency’s section.

States listed below have a state specific requirement different than the SAFE 20 hour comprehensive PE or SAFE act mandated 8 hours of CE if not listed then the base 20 hour and 8 hour requirements apply.
