How to Schedule Your NMLS Exam Now!

Time is of the essence, and appointments are limited, so it’s important to act quickly. Follow this comprehensive plan to stay on track and feel supported throughout your preparation, reducing stress and building confidence.

1. Purchase and Enroll in Your SAFE 20-Hour Course

You can start by purchasing the required 20-hour pre-licensing course and test preparation materials at www.AAAMortgageTraining.com. Completing this step confirms you meet the prerequisites for scheduling your exam and helps avoid delays caused by incomplete requirements.

2. Log in to Your NMLS Account

Access your account at https://www.statemortgageregistry.com/Public/Login.aspx. Ensure you’re in the “State non-depository” section. On the top right, click on “MLO education and Testing,” then select “Pay for an Exam.” Choose your state or any state from the list—note that all states lead to the same exam, known as the “MLO SAFE Exam,” which includes the “National Component Exam with the Uniform State Test (UST).”

3. Pay the Exam Fee and Schedule Your Test

The exam fee is $110. After payment, your enrollment window will appear in your account within a few minutes. Scroll down slightly to find and select your preferred “exam-ready” date—ideally 1-2 weeks after completing your 20-hour course. If the earliest available date is several weeks later, consider booking it as a backup plan. The test prep plan is valid for 60 days, encouraging candidates to take the exam within 30 days of course completion, which helps manage costs and scheduling flexibility.

4. Prepare and Book Your Exam

Once you’re consistently scoring 80% or higher on mock exams, visit www.ProMetric.com/NMLS to look for cancellations. Many test-takers cancel their appointments 2-5 days in advance, allowing you to reschedule on short notice. If you cancel at least 2 business days before your appointment, you won’t lose your exam fee and can rebook without additional charges. This strategy has proven successful for many new licensees!
